School Holiday Activities at Nature in Art

Fun packed activities to make the holidays extra special.
1 August: Native American Style Hand drum
Decorate a native American hand drum. Feathers, beads and paint will be used to make these brightly coloured drums. The drums measure 6cm and are made from card. They are intended to be played by twisting the straw to allow beads to hit the card creating a sound. Age 5+

2 August: Inspired by Jill Confavreux
Jill Confavreux works with mixed media including bubble wrap, paper doilies, tissue paper and burnt paper. Children will see her work and then using the same techniques as Jill they will create their own mixed media art work. Age 6+

6 August: Monkey Bean Bags
Create a monkey bean bag. The design will be pre-cut so you will only have to think of how to decorate and then sew the bean bag together. Age 5+

7 August: Pastel Workshop
If you have ever wondered how to use pastels then this is the workshop for you. Learn some basic techniques and then have a go for yourself. You will even be introduced to pencil pastels, a less messy option and how to make your own pastel papers. Age 8+

8 August: Drawing Skills Workshop
This workshop will start with the basics of drawing such as the difference between the grades of pencils and will progress from simple drawing activities to creating a final image. The skills learnt can be applied to any type of drawing and so this is a fantastic workshop for anyone wanting to develop their drawing skills. Age 6+

9 August: Paper Sculpture
Learn how to bend, fold and shape paper to create your own paper sculpture. We will look at the work of other paper artists and then you will be given the option to create your own paper sculpture or use a pre made design. Age 4+

14 August: Batik
To create a batik areas of cloth are blocked out by either painting or drawing on to the cloth with hot wax. The wax creates a resist so when the cloth is covered in a dye only the non waxed areas change colour. This process is repeated again and again until the desired effect is achieved. In this workshop the children will create a batik painting by using a tjanting to draw out-lines using wax and then specialist dyes to add colour. The workshop will introduce children to the basics of batik work. Age 8+

15 August: Terracotta Pots
Decorate a terracotta pot to display in the garden. We will use specialist paints to create interesting patterns and shapes. The pot can be left behind and collected the following day after it has been varnished. Age 3+

13 August: Wire Flower Wreath
Using wire and a special type of resin we will create a lovely wire flowers. The special resin becomes transparent and so will allow the light to shine through. We will then attach these flowers onto circular piece of metal to create a wreath Age 4+

22 August: Still life Painting
A still life painting is a great way of working on your observational skills and improving your painting skills too. We will set up a still life and then you will be shown how to turn it into a fantastic painting. The paints we will use will be acrylic so please make sure you bring an apron and wear old clothes. Age 8+

16 August: Under the Sea Collage
A lovely workshop using lots of different techniques to create an underwater scene. From tearing and cutting paper to using tissue paper, water colour and card. We will use rubbings, pastels and lots of different paints to create a magical underwater picture. Age 3+
Time: 10.30—12.30 and 2.30—4.30

20 August: Fabric Hand Puppet
Decorate a fabric hand puppet using fabric paints. Add eyes, hair and even clothes if you wish to create your own puppet. In the past we have had rabbits, kings, queens, scary pirates, the choice is yours. Age 3+

21 August: Turn Photos into a pen and ink drawing
Learn how to turn a photograph of anything into a simple pen and ink drawing. Children will be given an image and shown how, using a few simple materials, you can create an artwork from photos. Age 5+

All sessions are two hours long and are lead by qualified (and friendly) staff. Advance booking required.
