Planning ahead: Thought about an autumn break in Gloucestershire?

Planning ahead: Thought about an autumn break in Gloucestershire?

What could be better than a stay in Gloucestershire at this stunning time of the year?

With the spectacular autumn colours that grace the woodlands of the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean it really is a beautiful time to visit. With Westonbirt in the south Cotswolds and Batsford in the north Cotswolds, these arboretums, unique in their own way, offer the visitor a stunning visit. The Forest of Dean offers many wonderful woodland walks and also an extensive cycle network which is safe for the whole family to enjoy.

You will also find a lot going on. The world famous Cheltenham Literature Festival takes place in Cheltenham during October and in the centre of the magnificent spa town you'll find the fabulous Everyman Theatre, offering some great shows. The National Hunt season commences during the autumn months, an experience at Cheltenham Racecourse is always one to treasure.

If you're bringing the family then during the half term school holidays there are lots of Halloween activities to enjoy, including Frightmare - the biggest Halloween festival in the south west of England! Look out for some of the popular pre-Christmas markets and fayres too - there's a great one at Nature in Art near Gloucester and another at Taurus Crafts in the Forest of Dean.

On the Explore Gloucestershire website you will find an extensive selection of places to stay in the county, including some great hotels and self-catering accommodation.
