Spectacular autumn colour predicted for beautiful Batsford Arboretum
Batsford Arboretum are gearing up for the annual blaze of autumn colour thanks to their magnificent collection of maples and cherries.
Home to one of the largest private collections of trees and shrubs in the country, the 56 acre arboretum is a treat not to be missed from mid-October to mid-November when the trees put on a show-stopping display of reds, golds and yellows.
A warm spring led to a great start to the year for the Gloucestershire charity, which wholly relies on income raised through the arboretum and garden centre. But as always we expect the autumn colour to be the star of the show in October and November.
As well as amazing colour, visitors to Batsford – just a mile from historic market town Moreton-in-Marsh - can soak up the smells of autumn as the Katsura Trees provide an overpowering burnt sugar smell. Batsford is an unusual arboretum – planted on a hillside which gives spectacular views across the tree canopy to the Evenlode Valley and Cotswolds beyond. It offers visitors a wonderful place to enjoy intimate, romantic walks beside the meandering paths and streams and makes a great hald day out in the north Cotswolds.
It’s not just the arboretum that attracts visitors in at this time of year though. Many come to enjoy a home-baked lunch, afternoon tea or coffee on deck of the Garden Terrace Café – just perfect for enjoying the last of the summer sun, while admiring the view of the walled garden Plant Centre, or to browse the fabulous range of gifts and shabby chic furniture in the Arboretum Gift Shop and Applestore.
