Gloucestershire at its Best Photography Competition 2015 - Winner

Explore Gloucestershire at its Best Photography Competition 2015 - Winner

On a sunny Wednesday in February, outside Gloucester Cathedral, Chris Hargreaves, the winner of the 2015 ‘Explore Gloucestershire at its Best’ Photography Competition picked up a cheque for £500 and a poster size print of the winning photograph from Orlaith Palmer, Marketing Manager for Stagecoach West buses.
Chris who is 40 and has lived in Gloucester for 15 years, works in Witney as a town planner. In his spare he time really enjoys taking photographs - especially in Gloucestershire!

Chris said: “I was inspired to take the photograph because I love Gloucester's heritage, including the Docks and Cathedral in particular. I wasn't born in Gloucester but love living here because it has a unique character and charm, much of which derives from its importance as a historic City.
Gloucestershire in general is a fantastic place to live. It offers so much to do and has some amazing places to visit including the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. Something to do all year round and very accessible to and from the rest of the Country.”

The winning photo was jointly chosen by a team from Explore Gloucestershire and competition sponsors Stagecoach West. The 2015 competition was the busiest so far and the quality of some of entries was exceedingly good. It was a close call but Chris’s image really captured a historic essence, with great composition, contrast and depth of colour. Orlaith Palmer from Stagecoach West said: “Stagecoach West really enjoy sponsoring this competition with Explore Gloucestershire. We get some really beautiful, funny and interesting entries and it's a really difficult decision to pick a winner from all the talented amateurs who enter, however Chris Hargreaves's picture really struck a chord with all the judges and is a truly worthy winner.”

Chris's entry can be seen below as well as five very highly commended entries.

The 2016 Explore Gloucestershire at its Best Photography Competition is now running. Anyone who feels they have a photo or can take a photo to show Gloucestershire at its best can enter the competition here.
