The Roses’ Brand New Panto is Guaranteed to Hit The Mark
The Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury are delighted that for the first time they will be presenting the adventurous tale of Robin Hood & the Babes in the Wood from Saturday 3 December to Saturday 7 January.
With the usual festive fantasy and merry mishaps, audiences are invited to leave the real world behind and escape to Sherwood Forest, complete with magic, visual extravagance and an abundance of comic antics. The fiendishly wicked Sheriff is intent on committing some truly dastardly deeds in his evil quest to steal the Kingdom away from its rightful heir. Enter Robin Hood and his band of merry men (and women!) as they set out on a quest to save the Kingdom from the clutches of the shameless Sheriff.
This timeless treat is written and directed by one of panto-land’s most celebrated script writers, Ben Crocker. During the last twenty years, Ben has directed over seventy professional productions, including fifteen pantomimes. Six years ago he started writing the scripts which contain all of his knowledge, expertise and love for the art form, and his work has been performed all over the UK and Ireland as well as in Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Greece, Belgium and France; the quality and sheer sense of fun know no boundaries. His original and witty writing freshens the familiar tales whilst retaining their traditional, enchanting elements.
Bringing the larger than life characters alive are Matt Beveridge as Robin Hood, Rachael Henley as Maid Marion, Charlotte Chalkey as Little Joan, J.J Henry as Winne Widebottom, Michael Watson-Gray as Dennis, and Ben Eagle as Friar Tuck. Many will remember Jeffrey Harmer as one of the Ugly Stepsisters from last year’s Cinderella; he returns to The Roses once again to portray The Sherriff.
The Roses’ vibrant annual pantomime has a solid reputation for being one of the best in the region and, just like Robin Hood’s arrows, this year’s tale promises to hit the mark.
