NEW Pirates weekend event in Gloucester sailing into the Docks

Pirates at Gloucester Docks 2008

Gloucester will be alive with cries of "Shiver Me Timbers" as the city plays host to a weekend of pirate action.in Gloucester Docks in October 2008.

On the weekend of Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 October 2008, Viking long boats will do battle in the docks, a pirate-styled tall ship, 'The Matthew', will sail in and pirate crews will do mock-battle with pistol and cutlass.

Other highlights include shanty bands, historical re-enactments, treasure hunts and, on the family Sunday, pirate workshops for children.

The Gloucester Docks Pirate Weekend 2008 carries on the theme of exciting maritime events started last year with the hugely successful Gloucester Tall Ships Festival weekend, and celebrates Gloucester's position as Britain's most inland port.

Leader of the council Paul James said: "This is a fantastic event for everyone to enjoy, celebrating our historic maritime connections as well as highlighting all the new places unfolding thanks to Gloucester's continued regeneration, truly putting our "buried treasure" on the map."
