New CITI network from Stagecoach

Stagecoach West CITI buses Stagecoach West today (08 November) officially launched a bus enhancement project to encourage more people to leave their cars at home and travel by bus.

The newly branded citi network sees the introduction of brand new single and double deck low floor buses to run on services 1,3,5,7,9 & 10. These services run on a 10 – 15 minute frequency (daytime Monday – Saturday). The purchase of these new buses takes the total number bought for Gloucester in 2006 to a staggering 17, equating to an investment of almost £2.5 million.

Over the last few years, Gloucester has seen improvements to its bus services in the form of increased frequencies, Sunday and evening services and the introduction of low floor buses. However, the launch of the citi network significantly overshadows previous attempts and will no doubt raise the bar of bus travel in the area.

To mark the beginning of the newly branded network, Brian Souter, Chief Executive for Stagecoach Group and Ian Manning, Managing Director for Stagecoach West jointly launched citi at Gloucester Cathedral.

Ian Manning said: “This is a practical, quick win initiative that will deliver a much needed boost for bus provision in the area while making a real difference to passengers in Gloucester. The investment shows our commitment to both improving and increasing the profile of bus travel in Gloucester.”

Nathan Williams, Marketing Manager for Stagecoach West, said: “In 2006 Stagecoach West have invested millions of pounds in improving its bus service in Gloucester. It is our aim to significantly increase passenger numbers and see more routes join the citi network.”

Ian Manning concluded: “Whilst we will continue to improve bus services across Gloucestershire, it’s vital that Local Authorities work in partnership with us to help keep fares stable, increase bus speeds and generally aid public transport.”
