Healthy Smoothie Competition!

Cotswold Show 2007 & Stirrin’ Stuff competition Celebrity Chef and the Cotswold Show, launch Healthy Smoothie Competition Across Schools in Gloucestershire.

Winner of Scottish Master Chef, finalist of Masterchef UK and creator of the healthy eating initiative for children in Scotland called Stirrin’ Stuff, Fiona Bird is helping to launch a ‘smoothie’ competition across Gloucestershire schools, in conjunction with this years Cotswold Show 2007, which takes place on the 7 & 8 July at Cirencester Park.

The partnership aims to promote the advantages of healthy eating to young children throughout the region. Fiona’s ethos is to promote the goodness of raw foods and that ‘children should taste through their tongues and not through their eyes’. Pupils from schools in Gloucestershire are being invited to design, draw and name their craziest, coolest and healthiest smoothie ideas.

The winner will join Fiona at the show and watch their smoothie come to life as part of Fiona’s popular interactive food demonstration, plus receive family tickets for themselves and three lucky runners up. The winning school will also receive a special visit and healthy eating demonstration from Fiona.

Finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges including; Fiona Bird, Cotswold Show organisers Lord Aplsey and Claudia Wilson and this year’s show partners Mike Brunsdon from Pebley Beach, Suzuki and Matthew fuller from Cirencester based Estate Agents, Cain and Fuller.

Fiona Bird said: "There are many reasons for teaching children the joys of cooking with wholesome ingredients. It is not just the promotion of health or prevention of illness - good food is one of life's genuine pleasures and one that we should really make available to everyone."

Fiona has written children’s cookery articles for the Aberdeen Press and Journal plus had recipes in publications such as Country Kitchen, Green Parent and Organic Life. Her tours take her Stirrin’ Stuff workshops to a number of shows, schools and universities across Scotland. Fiona is currently working on a children’s cookery book, to be published by Barefoot Books in 2007.

Stirrin’Stuff also supports the Food Standards Agency (FSA) ‘traffic light’ food labelling scheme.
