Wychwood Festival 2011

Yet more additions to Wychwood 2011 are setting up the festival’s best year yet with BRIT Award winner Eddi Reader, loved indie rockers The Bluetones, Eliza Carthy, Kissmet, Oxford Imps, Arcadian Kicks & Handshakes.

A new collaboration with French Music Office brings Francois & The Atlas Mountains and Moussu T e lei Jovents to Wychwood 2011.

Also on offer a brand new Sculpture Garden including internationally exhibited David Meredith and Michael Kusz.

The Childrens Literary festival continues to grow with Lazlo Strangolov aka Matt Whyman, Steve Cole and Simon Mason.

Eddi Reader is the newest edition to an already bulging Wychwood Festival line-up, bringing her traditional and
contemporary sounds to her listeners. Best known for her work with Fairground Attraction and for an enduring solo
career, Reader’s music has been acknowledged through three BRIT Awards and has topped both the UK album and singles charts.

Hounslow rock band The Bluetones will be gracing the Wychwood main stage on Saturday 4th June. Made up of Mark and Scott Morriss, Adam Devlin and Ed Chesters, the Britpop survivors are famed throughout the globe for their swaggering indie rock. Rising to success with their debut album ‘Expecting To Fly’, The Bluetones have tight hold of a place in music lovers hearts.

Eliza Carthy is undoubtedly one of the most impressive and engaging performers of her generation. Twice nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and winner of numerable other accolades over a 15 year career, Eliza has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists including, Paul Weller, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Nick Cave and most recently Patrick Wolf. Eliza has revitalised folk music and captured the most hardened of listeners with intelligent, charismatic and boundary-crossing performances. 2011 will be Eliza’s third Wychwood appearance.


Returning to the Festival this year is the much loved Kissmet, the two Indian Sikh brothers bring cross cultural inception coupled with spectacular energy to the stage, forming a sound that crosses Bhangra and Rock with Raags and Funk.Fusing the sounds together Kissmet create a sound that festival goers truly love.

After forming in 2006, indie rock band The Arcadian Kicks have gone from strength to strength, taking their mashed up Fleetwood Mac and Yeah Yeah Yeahs sound around the all the major UK festivals. Their debut alum, ‘Making Lovers’ was written throughout 2010 with Mike Chapman who worked with Blondie and is expected later this year, The Arcadian Kicks are a must see this year.

This year Wychwood Festival is partnering with The French Music Office, bringing some of the finest artists across the channel to UK shores, including Francois & the Atlas Mountains and Moussu T e lei Jovents. Their Bleu Blanc World programme in 2011 has already seen a superb compilation covermounted with Songlines Magazine 75th edition.

Los Angeles band Handshakes will be performing this year, playing tracks from their debut EP ‘Cryptozoology’ which is released April 12th through Old Flame Records. Joining the Big Top Stage at Saturday’s Wychwood is improvised comedy duo The Oxford Imps, who will be keeping festival goers in fits of laughter with their refreshing performance.

This phenomenal offering joins and already bulging line-up including indie heroes The Charlatans, as well as performances by rock royalty Robyn Hitchcock andn Ian Anderson who will be playing a host of legendary songs from his Jethro Tull cannon. Also joining the line-up is Gary Barlow favourite Delta Maid, Wychwood regulars 3 Daft Monkeys, Celtic masters Elfynn, Nottinghamshire royalty The Beetroot Kings, The Wurzels and The Gift Band.

Widely regarded as the UK’s most family friendly festival, Wychwood has been nominated for the ‘Best Family Festival’ award at the UK Festival Awards every year since its launch. Friday Adult tickets are priced at £37, Saturday Adult are £53 and Sunday Adults are £43, all tickets and prices are availablefrom www.wychwood.com. There are also Youth concessions (16-18yrs) available at £95 (full weekend) and 10-15yrs weekend tickets for £55. Under 10’s go for free with each adult ticket allowing two free under 10’s.
