Air Tattoo flies high in awards

RIAT 2012

READERS of an online aviation magazine have awarded the Royal International Air Tattoo the prestigious title of the Best UK Airshow of 2011.

Airshow and aviation magazine Airscene polled its readers in December and the Air Tattoo won the most votes, beating other well-known airshows such as those held at Duxford and RAF Waddington.
Airscene Editor Ian Grigg said: "The Air Tattoo was the worthy winner of Airscene's Best UK Airshow category for 2011. The airshow regularly sets the benchmark against which all other UK and international airshows are measured, delivering an incredible flying display programme featuring the most exciting blend of military and civilian aircraft from around the world.”

Last summer saw the Air Tattoo celebrate its 40th anniversary with a flying display featuring nine aerobatic display teams, the only flying Vulcan Bomber, vintage World War Two aircraft as well as the world’s latest fast jets. On the ground, visitors were able to see a range of international aircraft including a rare Russian-built Su-27 and the RAF’s latest air-to-air refueller, the A330 ‘Voyager’.

Air Tattoo Chief Executive Tim Prince said: “It is always good to see the very hard work put in by our 1,600-strong volunteer team each year recognised by the public. I am confident that with the exciting line up of aircraft we have planned for July that we will be up there once again battling for the title in 2012.”

This summer’s Air Tattoo takes place on July 7-8 when organisers will be joining forces with the Royal Air Force to stage a special Diamond Jubilee celebration in honour of Her Majesty The Queen.

Special Earlybird tickets are now available by visiting airtattoo.com or by calling 0800 107 1940. All tickets must be purchased in advance. All accompanied under-16s go free.
