The Hobnails Inn - one of Britain's oldest pubs.Ye Olde Hobnails Inn is a historic inn situated in Little Washbourne, just east of Tewkesbury.
Built in 1280 and listed as an inn since 1473, the Hobnails Inn offer bags of character and atmosphere for you to enjoy your meal or drinks.
With renowned service and superb food, the Hobnails Inn attract regulars from a wide area as well as summer tourists and our locals. Maybe Harry the resident ghost has something to do with the added attraction! About...
One theory about the origins of our name is that it referred to the Hobnail boots worn by the farm workers. Up until 1474 it was the Manor House, lived in by Roger Washbourne. From 1743 - 1993 (250 years) it was in the same family, the Fletchers. Local people including myself will remember it being famous for their vast range of baps and glorious homemade desserts.
If walls could talk I'm sure they would have some secrets to tell. Legend has it that there is a friendly ghost or two that wander the floors. including "Harry" a small boy ghost who just likes to play pranks, and I feel sure that we have experienced a few of his visits!
In the oldest part of the pub there is an extract from a newspaper cutting by Ralph Fletcher, stating that "the two essentials for running a successful Inn are good health and a good partner". This is true as partner David Mclean spends the majority of his time in the kitchen using his skills, along with his team, to prepare home cooked food to a highest of standards, using only the best quality ingredients and local produce where he can. Jan Minett the other partner runs a tight ship, front of house and makes eating and drinking at the Hobnails a great experience.
