Holy Week and Easter at Gloucester Cathedral

Sunday 14 - Sunday 21 April 2019

Palm Sunday 14 April

  • 10.15am The Eucharist with the Blessing of the Palms and the Singing of The Passion starting at St Mary de Lode Church.
    Begin Holy Week and enter the Cathedral just as Jesus entered Jerusalem
  • 3pm Choral Evensong
  • 5pm Compline in the Lady Chapel sung by Cathedral Lay Clerks and Choral Scholars.
    Quiet, reflective, beautiful worship to end the day.

Monday 15, Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 April

  • 7.30pm Holy Week Compline and Address St Mary de Lode Church
    Preachers will be – Monday: Canon Dr Andrew Braddock, Tuesday: Canon Celia Thomson and Wednesday: Canon Richard Mitchell.

Maundy Thursday 18 April

  • 11am    Diocesan Eucharist with Blessing of the OilsClergy and Readers from across the diocese come to be with our Bishop and to reaffirm our commitment to serve.
  • 5.30pm  Evensong sung by Cathedral Lay Clerks and Choral Scholars
  • 7.30pm  The Eucharist of the Last Supper sung by the Youth Choir with Vigil until midnight.
    ‘Do this in remembrance of me’. We wait with Jesus and follow his command of love.

Good Friday 19 April

  • 12-3pm A service mirroring Jesus’ three hours on the Cross including:
  • 12 noon The Preaching of The Passion - Fr Timothy Radcliffe O.P.
  • 1.30pm The Liturgy of Good Friday sung by the Cathedral Choir.     

Holy Saturday 20 April

  • 8.30pm  The Liturgy of Easter Eve sung by the Cathedral Choir Adults, Boy Choristers and Youth Choir.
    On this night, life stirs in the tomb, and light is reborn.    

Easter Sunday 21 April

  • 8am Holy Communion
  • 10.15am Festal Eucharist sung by Cathedral Choir, Boy and Girl Choristers and the Cathedral Junior Choir.
    Jesus is Risen, and we are set free. All are welcome.
  • There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for the children in the Cloisters.
  • 3pm Festal Evensong and Procession
