August Activities at Lodge Park

Thursday 1 - Sunday 31 August 2019

There's a lot going on this August at Lodge Park during the school summer holidays:

Fridays 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 August: Conservation in Action
Join the Senior House Steward Sara to find out more about some of Lodge Park's collection items and how the National Trust cleans and maintains its finest pieces.
Time: 12-1pm, 2-3pm
Tickets: Free of charge

Wednesday 7 & 21 August: Conygree Farm Walks

Take a gentle stroll from Lodge Park though the wildflower meadows of Conygree Farm with National Trust tenant farmers and wildlife enthusiasts Jonty and Mel Brunyee - winners of the Trust’s Farming with Nature Award in 2017 and numerous Fine Farm Produce Awards. You will see rare breed Cotswold sheep and Traditional Hereford cattle, bee hives, butterflies, farmland birds and lots more. You will also get chance to talk about sustainable farming and food. The walk will last around 2 hours and cover 1.5 miles over gently undulating ground. Boots needed only if wet. There will be a refreshments in their Giant Hat Tipis (for a small donation) and a toilet stop towards the end of the walk. You can also buy organic pasture fed meat directly from the farm if you wish.
Time: 2-4pm
Tickets: Free of charge

Wednesday 14 & 28 August: Dry Stone Walling Demonstration
See the traditional craft of drystone walling in action and maybe even have a go yourself. Andy will demonstrate how to turn a pile of stones into something that will last for centuries.
Time: 11:00am to 15:30pm
Tickets: Free of charge

Thursday 1 & Tuesday 6 August: Wildflower Seed Bombs
This activity is perfect for little green fingers. Let kids get creative with nature and make wildflower seed balls to scatter in the garden. Packed with seeds and ready to plant, this is a great way to add a splash of colour to the garden and attract bees and butterflies.
Time: Drop-in sessions from 11.00am to 12.30pm & 13.00pm to 14.00pm
Tickets: £2 per child

Thursday 22 & Tuesday 27 August: Make a Bug Hotel

Bugs are really important in nature to control pests, pollinate flowers and keep our gardens and parks looking healthy. They need somewhere to live, especially over the winter and safe hideaways can be hard for wildlife to find in some gardens.
This fun activity uses natural materials and things we would normally throw away to make a cosy home for creatures such as bees, ladybirds and woodlice.
Take your hotel home and wait for your guests to arrive…
Time: Drop-in sessions from 11.00am to 12.30pm & 13.00pm to 14.00pm
Tickets: Free of charge

Saturday 17 August: Get to know a tree day
Explore the wonderful world of trees at Lodge Park.
As well as finding out lots of fun facts about trees, you can measure the age of a tree, do some bark rubbing, make faces on a tree, and have a go at forest bathing.
