Crafts that Built the Cathedral: Stone Carving Workshop
Join award-winning stone carver Deb Harrison in the Cathedral's Medieval Learning Hub for a hands-on stone carving workshop. Over four hours, participants will design and carve a relief tile, using techniques that built the Cathedral 1,000 years ago—no experience needed!
What to Expect:
- Health and safety introduction
- Introduction to the stone
- Learning to use the Stonemasons’ tools
- Create or bring a stencil design (20x20cm), or draw inspiration from designs reflecting the Cathedral's themes and symbols
- Transfer the design onto stone using carbon paper
- Outline, rough out, refine, and finish the carving
- Take the piece home—or feature it in the summer exhibition showcasing heritage skills and community-created artwork. If displayed, the piece will be returned by post after the exhibition.
Additional Information:
- Suitable for ages 13+ (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult)
- All materials, tools, and PPE provided
