Craven Arms: Award-winning Cotswold Pub launches own beer

Craven Arms: Award-winning Cotswold Pub launches own beer

The Craven Arms enjoyed a double-whammy celebration over the May Day Bank Holiday Weekend.

The family run Cotswold pub at Brockhampton, 10 minutes east of Cheltenham, have another award to add to their trophy cabinet after winning the title of ‘Runner up CAMRA North Cotswold Pub of the Year 2013’.

Dating back to the 16th Century, the Craven Arms is run by Barbara and son Sam. Barbara’s leadership, with self-driven dedication and hard work is matched with Sam’s enormous talent in the kitchen. Trained at the Michelin-starred St Martin's Hotel in the Isles of Scilly, Sam offers a locally sourced menu to cover a variety of tastes, including Sudeley Hill Sausages, Craven 8oz Beef Burger, Butternut Squash, Spinach and Ricotta Pie  and Mushroom Apricot and Goat's cheese Loaf to name but a few.

One of the major reasons of course for winning the ‘Runner up (CAMRA) North Cotswold Pub of the Year 2013’, is due to their excellent care and attention to the real ales served at the Craven Arms. Barbara and her husband Bob have had a turbulent few years, with Bob losing one of his legs to illness. In true spirit and determination and looking positively to the future, Barbara, Bob and Sam decided to launch their very own beer to help raise money for Diabetes UK. With the help of Butcombe Brewery, the new beer ‘Legless Bob’, was launched and is unique to the Craven Arms – and we must say that it’s a very nice beer indeed! For every pint sold, 20p will be donated to Diabetes UK , which helps tackle the UK’s biggest health challenge.

So if you fancy a drive into the Cotswolds, then the Craven Arms is a perfect place to visit – a warm atmosphere, a picturesque beer garden, a wonderful menu and of course a fantastic selection of real ales and ciders – and we do whole-heartledy recommended a pint or two of ‘Legless Bob’!
