REVIEW: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) {Revised}

REVIEW: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) {Revised}

Enjoy plenty of belly laughs with the Bard.

Take your sceptical older children to this production and anyone else who says they don’t like Shakespeare and I challenge them not to enjoy this!  With references to all 38 of his plays and a smattering of his poems too this rollercoaster of a production is absolutely hilarious. Play spot the Shakespeare production  - which is particularly challenging when they distil all the comedies into one with a touch of Monty Python craziness!

Not satisfied with reducing us to tears of laughter the players get the audience to be Ophelia’s Id, Ego and Superego, also roping in a member of the audience to be Ophelia.  So don’t make eye contact with the players unless you fancy yourself as the next Dame Judy Dench!
Covering all the history plays during a game of American Football is truly inspired but just when you think ‘where can they go from here?’ the three men team finish with sublime renditions of Hamlet.

Simon Cole in his various female roles reminded me of Terry Jones as the Virgin Mary in ‘The Life of Brian’ – brilliant. But all three actors work their tights off. Brought to you by Newbury Productions (UK) Ltd in Association with York Theatre Royal this production is a must see.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) {Revised} runs until Saturday 2 November.
