REVIEW: ‘And Then There Were None' at the Everyman Theatre
There’s nothing better than a trip to the theatre on a dark winters evening for a classic Agatha Christie whodunit. So that was our plan for Monday evening and the opening night of ‘And Then There Were None’ performed by The Agatha Christie Theatre Company. We were obviously not alone as the curtains went up for a full house.
Ten invited guests descend on a mansion on an isolated island off the coast of Devon. Greeted by the housekeepers Rogers and Ethel it soon becomes apparent that no one has ever met their hosts Mr. & Mrs. Owens and a nervous tension sets in as they ponder why they have been invited.
As the weekend progresses a correlation develops between the diminishing row of soldiers on the mantelpiece and the framed rhyme above it. As the guests ponder their future their stories unfold and their number start to diminish…
An all-star cast, which included Paul Nicholas and Susan Penhaligon performed a well-staged production of Agatha Christie’s tale of deceit and retribution, with the sinister events unfolding on an Art Deco inspired set with a large imposing window.
As the drama builds the audience get visibly more excited and by the second interval there are many deliberations going on around us. This is great theatre, leading up to its dramatic conclusion.
