Corinium Museum continues its winning streak with a Bronze at the South West Tourism Awards

Corinium Museum announced as finalist for South West Tourism Awards

Corinium Museum has been awarded Bronze in the “Small Visitor Attraction of the Year” category of this year’s South West Tourism Excellence Awards announced at the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare on Thursday 12th February.

South West Tourism stated that each year the judging gets harder as the region’s best vie to be the ‘best in class’.  This year was no exception, with a record of 425 entries to consider, the team of 35 judges undertaking a record 275 visits (up from 213 last year) across all the categories.  Scoring was often separated by fractions of a point, with the final panel meeting considered all judges’ recommendations, alongside websites, review sites and other evidence.  Robin Baker of South West Tourism commented “It really has developed into quite an operation, but so it needs to in judging the region’s best!”

This continues the museums successful start to the year, having already won Gold in the Cotswolds Tourism Awards for “Small Visitor Attraction of the Year” and with Cirencester Visitor Information Centre based within the museum winning gold for “Visitor Information Provider of the Year”. The Corinium Museum along side the Cirencester Visitor Information Centre is now through to the national Visit England awards which will be announced in May.

The museum’s Commercial Services Officer Isobel Milne said “We are delighted to have won bronze in the South West Tourism Awards along side the two Gold awards received from Cotswold Tourism. We are a small hard working team who bring Roman Britain to life for residents and visitors to the town. These awards reflects the museums continued commitment to developing and maintaining an excellent service.”

Robin Baker of South West Tourism commented that “To have made it amongst the Winners is a huge achievement, especially in England’s top region.”
