ACCOMMODATION REVIEW: Whitemead Forest Park Cabins, Forest of Dean

ACCOMMODATION REVIEW Whitemead Forest Park Cabins Forest of Dean

Explore Gloucestershire were invited to Whitemead Forest Park for a weekend break in one of their recently refurbished cabins in the Forest of Dean.

Geared up for families there is a selection of accommodation at Whitemead comprising of log cabins catering for up to eight people and apartments that can cater for up to six. Pets are also welcome in some cabins and apartments, although some are strictly dog free. There are also excellent facilities for tents, caravans and tourers and even a glamping pod. Located in a woodland setting with ponds and streams it really is a tranquil and relaxing spot.

Our wooden cabin slept a family of four. Tastefully decorated with a contemporary style it contained everything a family would need for a relaxing stay. The open plan layout with kitchen and dining area was well-equipped and double doors led out onto the veranda which was complete with patio furniture. Cute touches in our cabin were the puppets for children and games that were supplied. The free Wifi was useful and much appreciated by a teenage son.

Centrally located at Whitemead is the leisure complex. Here you will find the all year round indoor swimming pools – a family pool, children’s pool, two Jacuzzis, a steam room and sauna. A lifeguard is always on duty. There is also a gym and a health and beauty salon (charges are made for treatments).  A self-service eating facility also provides takeaway meals and a restaurant ensures that you always have the choice of eating in or out. The Foresters Bar is open daily until late. A Sunday carvery is popular with visitors and locals alike and represents great value for money. On the weekends and during school holidays, entertainment is provided in the large Venue. Tribute nights are very popular (an Adele tribute was at Whitemead when we arrived on Friday evening) and include food at a reasonable cost. There are many evening Events at Whitemead throughout the year - and they're also open to the public.

The rear of the complex overlooks a huge field and is ideal for children to play safely whilst parents can watch and enjoy a drink from the bar on the patio. There is also an enclosed outdoor children’s play area and indoor soft play area on site.

Whitemead Forest Park is set in an ideal location to explore The Forest of Dean and if you’ve never visited before you will be surprised at the number of Activities and Attractions that the Forest has on offer - it's one giant playground waiting to be explored! On the Saturday morning of our stay we went off site for a trip to Forest Segways at Go Ape, an activity that proved to be great fun and located only a short drive away.

We can honestly say that we had a very relaxing break, and on our last morning we were lucky to see a couple of deer grazing right outside our cabin – everyone was up early for a look!

We have been to Whitemead before and will return again - it's just so relaxing with so much on offer for the whole family to enjoy.
