Discover a Rare Waldrapp Ibis Chick at Birdland this Bank Holiday
Birdland Park & Gardens has plenty for all the family entertained this bank holiday weekend from Saturday 27 – Monday 29 August. Head to Bourton-on-the-Water to meet King Penguins, explore the Jurassic Journey and discover an exciting array of birds.
Birdland are pleased to announce that they have successfully bred a critically endangered Waldrapp Ibis chick, the first to hatch at the Park in over 5 years. The Waldrapp Ibis is a migratory bird found in barren, semi-desert or rocky habitats, often close to running water. The adults grow up to 80cm in height and have a glossy black plumage with a red featherless face and head, and a long, curved red bill. Visitors will be able to spot the fledging chick, and it’s parents in their special aviary.
Visitors can head to Penguin Shore to meet Birdland’s famous family of penguins. Home to the only breeding group of King Penguins in the UK, the comical Humboldts will keep everyone entertained from the new viewing platform.
Don’t' miss the two penguin feedings at 11am and 2.30pm and meet the famous residents. Keepers will be feeding the family of King Penguins and Humboldts as well as talking to visitors about caring for penguins and introducing them to the characters that inhabit Penguin Shore.
Families will love discovering the Jurassic Journey. The interactive trail takes visitors back to the time that dinosaurs roamed the Cotswolds.
Explorers will be armed with special dinosaur tracker kits, and will venture in to a Jurassic-themed landscape which is home to more than 30 different dinosaurs.
Birdland has expert Keepers who know all about their feathered friends. Look out for the 'Meet a Keeper' station in the park and learn something new.
Become a perch for a parrot and get up close to some of the Birdland residents. The petting area of the Close Encounters zone means that you can meet tortoises and cuddle the bunnies.
Grab a delicious lunch, fantastic Cotswold cream tea and much more at the newly renovated Flamingo Point Café. From hot food to coffees, sandwiches to cakes there is plenty of homemade fare to enjoy.
Pull up a picnic by the Flamingo river to see the fabulous flamingos being fed. There are 6 species of flamingo and Birdland have 2 species for visitors to meet, the Greater and Caribbean. All flamingos are pink and obtain the colour from their diet of crustaceans.
