New Head Gardener joins successful visitor attraction
The team at Painswick's Rococo Garden are celebrating the arrival of a new Head Gardener this week. Roger Standley has joined the historic Garden to take on the exciting challenge of overseeing the next stage of its development.
The restoration of Painswick Rococo Garden started back in the 1980s and it is now one of the county's most popular gardens to visit, with visitor numbers so far this year up a third on 2016. The Garden nestles in a hidden valley in Gloucestershire and is famed for its quirky buildings, gorgeous views and its display of snowdrops in February each year.
Roger joins the Garden from Perrycroft, near Malvern, where he was Head Gardener. Before that he worked at Sudeley Castle and for the National Trust. He will be leading a dedicated team of around fifteen staff and volunteers who work tirelessly all year round to look after the Garden.
Roger joins at a busy time of year. His packed schedule this week has included planting out hundreds of seedlings into the eye-catching Kitchen Garden, marshalling plants for our plant shop and delivering freshly-grown produce to the cafe.
Garden Director Dominic Hamilton says: "We've had a fantastic start to 2017, and I'm thrilled that Roger is joining us at such an exciting time. He will be crucial to the success of our plans for the next five to ten years as we aim to delight every visitor, whether or not they've been before."
