Corinium Museum celebrates BBC Civilisations Festival

Corinium Museum in Cirencester

Corinium Museum is excited to announce it has become one of the partner museums for the BBC Civilisations Festival. The festival runs from Friday 2 March to Sunday 11 March and will showcase collections relating to mosaics and Roman identity. A variety of events is planned to engage visitors of all ages, from families to the culturally curious adult visitor.

The Art Fund has awarded the museum a grant from its ‘Civilisations’ funding programme to work with Cleo Mussi, an internationally renowned mosaic artist from Stroud. Cleo will demonstrate the art of mosaics with members of the public on Saturday 10 March from 10am to 1pm to create a contemporary piece in response to the theme of Identity.

The Roman Society has also given funding to the Museum to create a new educational session for Key Stage 2 pupils. Elements of the session, entitled Roman Identity, will be shared on 10 March as part of our Civilisations special event day, perfect for visiting teachers and curious primary school children to explore the Museum’s educational offer.

Museum events over the festival period will include a Civilisations themed family trail, discovery tables exploring Identity, an afternoon talk and gallery talks showcasing objects from the collections. See the website for further details.
