Batsford Arboretum launches new Forest School
Batsford Arboretum in Gloucestershire will soon be able to offer school children an exciting programme of outdoor activities at the 56 acre site, as they launch their new Forest School in April.
Batsford’s Forest School will cater for pre-schoolers through to secondary school-aged children and will provide opportunities to learn and engage in the natural environment and develop practical skills using natural materials. Children will be able to take part in activities such as den building, hunting for ‘mini beasts’ and natural art. Schools can extend their visit with a guided tour of the Arboretum to explore the extensive tree and shrub collection if they wish.
The sessions will be based in Batsford’s new purpose-built shelter and led by a qualified Forest School Leader who will work closely with the school to adapt the activities to their requirements, whilst ensuring the children are given the opportunity to explore and play freely in a relaxed environment.
Batsford’s Director of Operations, Stuart Priest, said “Creating a Forest School at Batsford has been an ambition of ours for a long time. The sessions will be very much child-led; we want to encourage children to get outdoors and have fun in a natural environment and the Arboretum is the ideal place - there’s so much to discover.”
The Forest School sessions will be suitable for groups of up to 30 children and can be taken as a one-off two-hour long session, or a full day. There’ll also be the opportunity to book blocks of six two-hour long sessions that can be taken weekly throughout term-time.
