We Are Scientists to play Gloucester Guildhall

We Are Scientists play Gloucester Guildhall this Summer

Indie Power Pop kings, to play Gloucester Guildhall.

We Are Scientists, the Brooklyn, New York based power pop troupe are set to return to Gloucester Guildhall on Tuesday 31st July.

With a summer full of festival shows, Gloucester favourites We Are Scientists have managed to squeeze in this special one-off show at the Eastgate Street venue.

We Are Scientists debuted in the early 2000’s with the angular post-punk of With Love and Squalor, later evolving to incorporate polished synths and expanded atmospherics on efforts like Helter Seltzer and new album Megaplex.

A huge hit in the UK the band’s sound – part post-punk, part indie-rock with a touch of 80’s synth pop – has drawn parallels to contemporaries like Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, and the Killers.

Formed on the U.S West Coast by three Californian college students took flight when the band relocated to Brooklyn, releasing 3 EP’s and an indie album before signing with Virgin Records for its debut album With Love & Squalor. The album peaked at ten on the Billboard chart and was certified Gold in the UK.

Throughout a number of line-up changes – including the temporary addition of Razorlight’s drummer Andy Burrow – the band continued to tour relentlessly and release five more equally successful records. Follow up, Brain Thrust Mastery, for example, debuted at number 11 in the UK charts.

TV en Francais arrived in 2014 on 100%/Dine Alone Records and featured appearances from Rose Elinor Dougall (Mark Ronson) and Tim Wheeler (Ash). In 2016, We Are Scientists returned with their Fifth studio album, Helter Seltzer, produced by Max Hart (of Katy Perry’s band) before releasing new album Megaplex this year. Megaplex, also produced by Hart, features the singles ‘Heart is a Weapon’, ‘Not Another World’ and ‘Your Light Has Changed’

Always highly energetic, light hearted and filled with wall to wall bangers, a We Are Scientists set is not to be missed, particularly on their smallest stage this summer!

Support on the night comes from local sibling-fronted indie pop band Why We Love. They exploded onto the Bristol scene in May 2014, finding their feet playing sold-out shows with Wolf Alice, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Slow Club, Teleman & Wave Pictures. Their charming brand of sparkly guitar pop, bittersweet lyrics and harmonies create music to make you dance, sing and cry.

Tickets are priced at £16.50 and are on sale from the Guildhall Box Office on 01452 503050,  www.seetickets.com and www.gloucesterticketshop.co.uk
