The Everyman raises the curtain on a glittering new season
Hugh Dennis, Lesley Garrett, Ian Hislop, Nigel Havers, Nigel Harman, Samantha Womack, Stephen Tompkinson and Tweedy the clown are just some of the big names coming to Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre as they unveil a brand-new season.
The new brochure is packed full of shows to appeal to all ages and the highlight for many is the pantomime. This year Aladdin is an all-new show written by Blue Peter stunt man and actor, Peter Duncan and starring Tweedy, Ben Darcy and Daniel Beales.
Mark Goucher, chief executive of the Everyman Theatre said: “This is my third season of work and I think it is the best so far. Not only is the main house programme very strong but shows in our newly refurbished Irving Studio are also very good. I hope they will appeal to a diverse audience.”
Other top productions heading to Cheltenham include Fame The Musical with Keith Jack; The Verdict starring Ian Kelsey; Agatha Christie’s classic, The Mousetrap and a special 50th anniversary production of Hair The Musical direct from a West End run.
A highlight of the season is a gripping adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel, The Girl On The Train. This thriller stars Samantha Womack, well-known for her roles in EastEnders; Game On and the Kingsman movies.
Another show already selling fast is Glengarry Glen Ross. Direct from the West End, this stage version of David Mamet’s book stars Nigel Harman (another EastEnders favourite) and Mark Benton (Early Doors; Northern Lights) and is in Cheltenham next March.
One of the most successful comedies ever, Art, is coming to the Everyman with all-star cast Nigel Havers; Denis Lawson and Stephen Tompkinson.
Other ‘must see’ shows include the musical Club Tropicana – featuring the greatest pop anthems of the 80s; and the side-splitting, award-winning Avenue Q.
Children don’t miss out as besides the pantomime ,the Everyman is serving up the musical play The Tiger Who Came to Tea and also the first ever tour of Tom Gates Live On Stage. Don’t miss Liz Pichon’s fantastic characters brought to life!
This season the Cotswold Savoyards take over the stage to present Lionel Bart’s Oliver! and the Cheltenham Operatic and Dramatic Society stage The Producers by comedy legend, Mel Brooks.
