Creative Colouring returns to Gloucester Cathedral for Big Draw 2018

Creative Colouring returns to Gloucester Cathedral for Big Draw 2018

During October half term Gloucester Cathedral will be hosting three days of free art activities, from Thursday 25 to Saturday 27 October, as part of the international Big Draw initiative. With both Street Art and Illustration Workshops there are opportunities for everyone to get creative.

Last year’s Big Draw Cloister Colouring Carpet was a great success which led to the Cathedral being shortlisted for a Big Draw People’s Choice Award. This year we are joined by two artists to provide unique art and colouring activities.

Founder and Director of the Cheltenham Paint Festival, artist Andy ‘Dice’ Davies will be running drop-in Street Art Stencilling sessions from our newly landscaped Cathedral Green on Thursday and Friday followed by a final event on Saturday showcasing a Giant Colouring Paint Wall that visitors of all ages can join in with to create a huge collaborative piece of playful art.

Also on Saturday, published artist and illustrator Hannah Shaw will join the Cathedral’s Big Draw celebrations delivering fun and creative workshops in the Chapter House. Combining story telling with illustration – visitors can get creative with paper, pens and paints to make a unique artwork to take home.

Canon Precentor Richard Mitchell said: “Art and play are important for all of us to switch off - adults as well as children. God rested on the seventh day! The Cathedral is a great space for people to sit and create with thoughts about belief, and a sense of awe in creation and in our place in the pattern of life. The Cathedral is filled with art from huge stained glass windows to some of the detailed designs of the Cathedral stonework “

The theme for this year’s Big Draw initiative is “Play”, but it’s not just for children, anyone of any age is welcome to come along and join in. This event is completely free!
