Behind the Scenes: Rural Crafts of the Cotswolds

Behind the Scenes: Rural Crafts of the Cotswolds

Behind the Scenes: Rural Crafts of the Cotswolds will be presented at the Corinium Museum’s Resource Centre in Northleach by Museum Collections Assistant Dr Caroline Morris on 20th November 2019 at 11am.

After a tour of the Resource Centre, the talk will take a closer look at objects and photographs from the collection that evoke the rural crafts of the past. From tools once used by thatchers and hurdle makers, to photographs of hedge layers and Blacksmiths, our reserve collections reveal the craft & skills once common sights in the Cotswolds.

Through the items we have in our collection, this talk hopes to evoke some of the crafts, the people that were associated with them, and why they might have been collected.

Caroline tells us; “To feel the weight of the thatcher’s sheers or the beekeeper’s skep, is to imaginatively step into the crafts-person’s shoes, however briefly.”
