REVIEW: An Autumn Spectacular at Batsford Arboretum

REVIEW: Batsford Arboretum

It was a misty start to the day when we ventured over to Batsford Arboretum near Morton in the Marsh in the Cotswolds. Tucked away at the end of a long tree-lined avenue the mist cleared, the sun shone and we found out that it really is a picturesque location with lots on offer.

At the entrance to the Arboretum is the Garden Centre. Filled with the plethora of plants and gardening goodies it is a welcome oasis for gardeners. Beyond that you will find a large café with an extensive terrace (which is perfect for when the sun shines). As the day progresses this proves to be a popular venue with delicious food and drinks on offer. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome which is a bonus for lots of visitors. There is also a lovely gift shop that was gearing up for Christmas. Not stopping there we also discovered another area where you could rest up and grab a hot drink outside.

We set off from the visitor centre armed with sturdy boots and a map into the crisp autumn air. The colours of the trees are so beautiful at this time of the year and the Arboretum is an absolute haven for keen photographers. The views are lovely and you can even stop en route for a peek at the pretty Batsford Church. Batsford House may provide a majestic backdrop to some of the views but it is privately owned and not open to the public.

For a family day out Batsford Arboretum is a great educational resource, as children learn about the change in the seasons and its affect on nature and our natural world. The amazing thing about an Arboretum is the way it changes throughout the year and each visit will be different during the four seasons. On your relaxing stroll around the Arboretum you will also notice Eastern additions to this very tranquil place, with pretty bridges over cascading waterfalls,  and statues which include a large bronze Buddha which sits peacefully in its perfect spot.

Batsford Arboretum is a place which you can really make a day out of your visit, and even take the dog. You can combine it with a coffee or lunch with friends and family and even combine it with a visit to  the Cotswold Falconry Centre next door.

Why not become a member of Batsford and enjoy all the seasons  at the Arboretum and its facilities throughout the year. From only £35 per person it provides great value and offer a whole host of added benefits (see link below).
