Cheltenham’s Big Day Out at the Racecourse on New Year's Day

New Year's Day at Cheltenham Racecourse

The ever popular New Year’s Day fixture on Wednesday 1st January starts off the 2020 season at Cheltenham Racecourse where we welcome Alex the Lion and Skipper the Penguin from Dreamworks Madagascar who will make appearances throughout the day.

With attendance from some of the best horses, jockeys and trainers in the UK, as well as a multitude of family entertainment, spending New Year’s Day at Cheltenham Racecourse beats a day in front of the box.

The popular family fun zone returns with loads of great entertainment to keep the children (and parents) amused.  The first 500 children to visit the zone will receive a walking pet balloon and get a balloon model of their choice from Twistina and Twistopher. There will be performances from the brilliant children’s entertainer Showtime Shane, face painting, horse hoppers, colouring in and rosette making, fun inflatables and a visit from St James City Farm for the kids to meet and enjoy the animals.

Throughout the day there will be live music in the Guinness Village and The Hipcats will be playing jazz around the racecourse along with a live performance from Tommy and the Fuse after racing in The Centaur.

Also scheduled for January is the popular Festival Trials Day, the last opportunity for Cheltenham racegoers to enjoy performances from some of the UKs top racehorses, as they make their final preparations ahead of the main event of the year, The Festival TM, presented by Magners. Festival Trials Day takes place on Saturday 25th January and features seven exciting races to enjoy.

Gates open at 10.30am on New Year’s Day, with the first race at 12.15pm.
