Pick up your Pilgrim Passport at Gloucester Cathedral

Pick up your Pilgrim Passport at Gloucester Cathedral

This grey weather won’t last forever so pick up your Pilgrim Passport at Gloucester Cathedral and plan a trip today.

Gloucester Cathedral is delighted to announce that Pilgrim Passports are now available in the Cathedral Gift Shop. The passports are also available in every Church of England cathedral as part of the national campaign for 2020 Year of Cathedrals, Year of Pilgrimage.

The A6 sized Pilgrim Passport is full of inspirational quotes, prayers, a check list of cathedrals by region, and blank pages for visitors to record their thoughts and space to get their passport stamped at every cathedral or holy place they visit.

Use this new and unique Pilgrim Passport to record, plan and document your ‘own adventure of discovery’.

These passport sized booklets are the invention of two cathedral education officers, Jackie Holderness at Christ Church Oxford, and Portsmouth’s Sarah Page, who simply wanted to encourage visitors to see their visit as a pilgrimage. They have been produced by the Association of English Cathedrals and launched now for the Year of Cathedrals, Year of Pilgrimage and are available to buy in every Church of England Cathedral and its Welsh partners.

Dr Dee Dyas, Director for the Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture, and Director for Pilgrimage Studies at York University said: “Pilgrimage has formed part of almost every faith through the centuries and increasing numbers of people today are finding the idea of being a pilgrim very appealing – whether they consider themselves ‘religious’ or not.

All of us can relate to seeing our lives as a journey, enhanced by special places with special meaning. “Cathedrals are increasingly becoming such special places because they offer peace, beauty, and a chance to pause and reflect along the way. “The new Pilgrim Passport encourages everyone to find their own meaning though visiting these amazing buildings,”
she added.

What is the Pilgrim Passport for?
•        When you visit a cathedral you can receive a passport stamp/sticker
•        Use the list of places to plan visits
•        Record your experience at each cathedral you visit (and churches, abbeys, and places of pilgrimage).
•        Many of us see life as a journey enriched by special people and special places. For hundreds of years, cathedrals have been such places, filled with astonishing beauty, fascinating history, and glorious music, drawing pilgrims of all ages in search of peace, healing and joy.
•        You are invited to use this passport for your own adventure of discovery, following in the footsteps of many thousands of pilgrims who have come to these places over the centuries to learn, to think about their lives, and ask for God’s help and guidance.

Pilgrim Passports are now available to purchase in the Cathedral Gift Shop priced at £4.99. We look forward to warmly welcoming all Pilgrims at Gloucester Cathedral.
