Photography competition launched ahead of Westbury Court Garden hosting International Garden Photographer of the Year

Westbury Court Garden will be hosting the International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) exhibition in 2021. To celebrate this, the National Trust and IGPOTY have partnered to offer a competition beginning in March, the Wonders of Westbury Photographic Award. The winning photographs will be displayed alongside the national IGPOTY winners at the garden.

Originally laid out between 1696 and 1705, National Trust’s Westbury Court Garden is the only restored Dutch style water garden in the country. Visitors can explore canals, clipped hedges and working 17th-century vegetable plots, and discover many old varieties of fruit trees.

From 4 March until 25 October 2020 visitors are invited to capture the enduring beauty of Westbury Court Garden, for a chance to have their work exhibited at the garden alongside national IGPOTY winners and published in the annual IGPOTY hardcover book.

It is the first time the garden has had its own category in the world’s premier garden, plant and flower photography competition. The new free-to-enter award joins nine regular categories including ‘The Beauty of Plants’ and ‘Beautiful Gardens’ which together attract some 20,000 entries annually.

General Manager of Hidcote and Westbury Court Garden, Chris Charman, said: ‘This historic garden, enriched with canals and clipped-hedges, is a perfect location for all types of garden and landscape photography. From the parterre to the tall pavilion, the vegetable plots and canals beyond, Westbury is a garden utopia, just waiting to be captured.’

Selected winners will form part of an exclusive exhibition at Westbury Court Garden from 26 August 2021 until 31 October 2021, where the top three Wonders of Westbury entries will be displayed in the garden alongside the National IGPOTY best entries. Entry to the competition is via the International Garden Photographer of the Year website igpoty.com.

Westbury Court Garden is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 4 March - 31 May, 10am-5pm, before going to everyday opening from 1 June – 30 September, 10am-5pm, and then Wednesday to Sunday, 1 October – 25 October 10-5pm, before closing for winter.
