Art for Wellbeing project launches for adults affected by homelessness

Gloucester CAthedral

Gloucester Cathedral are delighted to launch Art for Wellbeing Drop-in sessions for adults affected by, or at risk of homelessness, in partnership with Gloucester City Mission.

The project is funded by a generous grant from Gloucestershire Community Foundation, enabling the Cathedral to further develop their work to support adults affected by homelessness.

The project will provide arts activity in an informal setting for creative learning and improved wellbeing and will be delivered from Gloucester City Mission’s Revive Coffee House in Gloucester’s city centre.

The free weekly sessions follow on from the Cathedral’s successful pilot Art for Wellbeing project ‘Breakfast Club Plus’.  Delivered over 10 weeks in autumn 2019, community artist and tutor Jo Teague provided drop-in art and craft activities for guests during the Cathedral’s Thursday morning Breakfast Club. Guests who got involved fed back: ‘Thanks for doing this, it helps to keep doing things’ and ‘It’s nice to chat and do something different’.
The Cathedral’s tradition of welcome and hospitality, and commitment to working with others to provide opportunities for all, is at the core of this Art for Wellbeing programme.

Helen Jeffrey, Community Engagement and Social Responsibility Manager said:
“These drop-in sessions aim to provide a safe, inclusive space where participants feel connected to others and their own creativity. We hope that those who participate find an improved sense of wellbeing, reduced stress and anxiety and feel more confident to continue arts activity”

The drop-in sessions are free to attend and will start every Tuesday from the 25th May 2021 running from 2pm-3.30pm at Revive Coffee House.
All materials are provided along with hot drinks at no cost to participants.
