Pick up a penguin experience with a summer visit to Birdland

Penguins at Birdland

Birdland Park and Gardens, in Bourton-on-the-Water, will showcase more than 500 species of birds to thousands of visitors during the summer holidays.

Located in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds, the park’s magical combination of wildlife, woodland, riverside and gardens makes it the perfect day out.

A recent new development is the revamped penguin enclosure, with the atmospheric redesign transforming it into a sleepy fishing village.

The above and below water viewing areas of Penguin Shore have also been updated with brand new glass, to give visitors a clearer view of some of the park’s celebrity birds.

They include Spike, who has his own popular social media presence after appearing in an advert for biscuits and on TV with Sir David Attenborough, and Seth, the oldest male king penguin in Europe, Asia or Australia. Born in 1985, he starred in blockbuster film Batman Returns, alongside the likes of Hollywood royalty such as Danny De Vito and Michelle Pfeiffer.
The park’s daily summer holiday programme includes flamingo, penguin and pelican feeds throughout the day. Visitors can head to the Encounter Zone, where they can meet giant tortoises, pet rabbits and guinea pigs, or come face to face with a snake. Venture into the Jurassic Journey and spot dozens of life-sized dinosaurs.

On Thursday, August 4, the park will celebrate International Owl Awareness Day with a day full of owl-tastic activities for families. Keepers will be leading special talks about owls throughout the day and during Meet the Keeper sessions, visitors can enjoy a close encounter with them. Spot the differences between the species and learn more about them during their visit.

Birdland cares for more than 500 birds, ranging from the UK’s only breeding colony of king penguins and awesome birds of prey to parrots, cassowaries and cranes in a mix of free-flying and aviary displays.

Birdland Park and Gardens is open daily from 10am (Except Christmas Day)
