REVIEW: The Dean Forest Railway

Dean Forest Railway

A day out with the kids in the Forest of Dean.

On arrival at the Dean Forest Railway we had no problem parking as the car park was huge. Norchard Station was very quaint with a great feeling of "stepping back in time”.

The gentleman at the tickets office was very friendly and helpful as were the other members of staff on the train who helped us board with four young children and two buggies. The journey was very relaxing and we stopped at several stations before continuing our journey through the scenic Forest of Dean. We even spotted some deer in a small wooded glade. We continued our journey to Park End and disembarked at the pretty station. We had a picnic lunch on a green which was enclosed and safe from the road and rail tracks so the children could play roam freely.

The return journey to Norchard was a lovely gentle pace and not too long either, so the children did not get irritable. At Norchard Station we visited the museum which was free and informative, without being too big and certainly did not overload on information.  The old working telephones provided great entertainment for both the children and us.

Our trip to the Dean Forest Railway was very enjoyable and we would highly recommend it to all ages.
