New Out of the Hat exhibition calls for public input
Tewkesbury’s Heritage and Visitor Centre Out of the Hat has revealed plans to launch a new exhibition in the spring – but first needs local input to help make it a success.
The exhibition, which is to be called Tales of the Riverbank, will look at trade on the river (to include Healings Mill); fishing; floods and individual stories of people linked to the rivers.
The exhibition will open in April - the start of the busiest time in the tourist season - and will be open throughout the summer.
To help make the exhibition a success, the centre is asking local residents to provide information, photographs or archive material which relates to the following subjects in Tewkesbury and the surrounding areas:
• Healings Mill
• The Marina
• History of the river
• Industry/activities that links to the rivers
• Material relating to the floods
• Poetry or stories
• Fishing – elvers and salmon
Archive material can mean anything from old photographs, paperwork, stories or items such as fishing, trade or boat equipment that people have used in the past or present.
The centre is also calling out for personal stories linked to the rivers to help make this exhibition unique.
All items will be looked after with great care and owners will be acknowledged at the exhibition. All items will be returned at the end of the exhibition.
Lead Member for Economic Development and Promotion Councillor Phil Taylor said: “Visitors to the borough often want to find out more about our rivers and this exhibition will offer a huge range of facts and information, including personal stories that may never have been told before.
“I strongly encourage local residents to help make this exhibition special by sharing personal experiences or any archive material they may have.”
