Meet the Gruffalo at the launch of the new trail at Dean Heritage Centre!
On Friday 29th March until Monday 1st April 2013 the Dean Heritage Centre (DHC) will open their highly anticipated Gruffalo’s Child trail. Visitors will be able to meet the official Gruffalo character at the opening weekend and see the spectacular new woodland trail based on the UK’s best loved children’s book.
The trail is the second of its kind at the centre to depict scenes from the storybooks by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and has been painstakingly carved by resident chainsaw artists Clayton Ryder, Gil Parnham, Mandy Thompson, assisted by a team of volunteers using locally sourced redwood from the Forest of Dean.
Opening over the Easter bank holiday, families will be able to enjoy special trails around Dean Heritage Centre, free Gruffalo’s Child themed craft activities and watch the onsite chainsaw carvers as the DHC prepares to go Gruffalo’s Child mad for 2013.
As well as regular appearances from the Gruffalo, visitors will be entertained by storytelling of the Gruffalo’s Child in the Victorian school room and screenings of the Gruffalo’s Child film in the Dean Heritage Centre meeting room.
PR and Event Manager, Harri Le Claire said: ‘We’re really looking forward to the launch of our brand new Gruffalo’s Child woodland trail. There will be plenty for visitors of all ages to see and do and the official Gruffalo character will be onsite throughout the whole of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. We’re looking forward to embracing all things Gruffalo for another year and hope it will encourage tourism in the local area as it did in 2012. The carvings look fantastic and a true representation of the characters that are so well known by children throughout the world.’
Why not bring the kids down to the Dean Heritage Centre to have their photo taken with the Big Gruff himself, eat from the Gruffalo menu in the café and take home their very own Gruffalo or Gruffalo’s child toy home from the gift shop. The Dean Heritage Centre woodland trail will continue throughout 2013.
