REVIEW: Robin Hood the Panto at The Everyman Theatre Cheltenham
Robin Hood and His Merry Men Panto Review at the Everyman Theatre Cheltenham
The Everyman Theatre’s festive extravaganza returns with Robin Hood and His Merry Men, delivering a night of classic panto mischief, big musical numbers, and laugh-out-loud moments for families across Gloucestershire. This year’s production feels brighter, bolder, and even more chaotic in the best possible way, with a cast who clearly revel in every second on stage.
Tweedy the Clown playing Friar 'Tweedy' Tuck', brings his trademark physical comedy to the famous musical pan routine, a sequence so funny that without spoiling anything, it is safe to say Tweedy may be feeling it by the final night. The chemistry between Tweedy and Nursie (Kevin Brewis) shines throughout, especially during an unexpected but brilliantly executed ice skating routine that had children and grown ups giggling in equal measure.
Costumes were outstanding once again. Will Scarlett’s (Kane Verrall) entrance was a real show stealer, bursting onto the stage with energy that lifted the entire theatre. The adult humour is back in force too, with Nursie delivering a generous handful of jokes that will fly over little ones’ heads but keep parents thoroughly entertained.
Robin Hood himself leans beautifully into the over-the-top panto style, a performance full of swagger and charm that quickly became a favourite. The Sheriff (Lizzie Bea), with her magic and powerhouse vocals, was another standout, adding real theatrical depth to the comedy chaos around her. Across the board, the talent has levelled up this year, with strong musical moments from Robin Hood, the Sheriff, and Maid Marian (Jewelle Hutchinson).
Enjoy a night out this Christmas in Cheltenham with a panto experience at The Everyman, Cheltenham. There were even a few moments where the cast turned away to hide their own laughter, a joyful reminder of how well they gel as an ensemble and how much fun they are genuinely having.
