Rita is a bright-eyed, 26-year-old working-class hairdresser eager to escape her mundane life. She enrols in an Open University Literature course, where she meets Frank, a disillusioned, middle-aged academic, failed writer, and self-confessed “professional drinker.”
Though Frank admits he’s “an appalling teacher,” Rita’s infectious enthusiasm sparks a journey of rediscovery for them both. Educating Rita is a life-affirming, deeply moving, and immensely funny play that beautifully combines two very different worlds.
