Art Courses at Nature in Art - Botanical Painting
Friday 18 - Saturday 19 July 2025
Accurate botanical painting with Simon Williams
Nature in Art at Wallsworth Hall is the world's first museum and art gallery dedicated to art inspired by nature. They run creative art courses throughout the year.
This two-day course focuses on botanical drawing and painting techniques, with the option to work in watercolour or gouache. Each day will begin with practical demonstrations covering key drawing and painting methods. Observational skills are vital in botanical art, so students will be encouraged to work from life, creating detailed studies of plants, leaves, fruits, or vegetables. Tutor Simon Williams will offer one-to-one advice, guiding students through techniques from base coats to more controlled methods, including texture rendering, contour definition, and colour transitions. Gouache, a vibrant and opaque form of watercolour, is used for illustration and publishing, making it an excellent medium for botanical art.
This course is suitable for intermediate to advanced levels, with prior drawing or painting experience recommended.
