Oak Bench Making at Westonbirt Arboretum

Create a stunning cleft oak garden bench using sustainably sourced timber from Westonbirt Arboretum’s woodlands. This hands-on workshop offers the chance to craft a durable bench that will stand the test of time.
Participants will learn the art of cleaving timber from large logs to form the legs, back, and arms of the bench. Traditional hand tools will be used to shape the individual components, with a focus on jointing techniques for secure assembly. For convenience, the bench legs can be made removable for easier transportation.
Benches can be crafted as one, two, or three-seaters, with or without arms, allowing for a personalised design.
