Eliza Carthy at The Roses Theatre
Sunday 27 April 2025
If there is one musician who defines the energy and spirit of the English folk revival, it’s Eliza Carthy MBE. Daughter of folk legends Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, she was raised in the heart of traditional music, earning early support from John Peel, Andy Kershaw, and Billy Bragg.
A master of crossing musical boundaries, Eliza Carthy captivates audiences whether performing solo, leading a big band, or delivering centuries-old ballads alongside her own compositions. Her powerful, expressive voice and electrifying fiddle-playing have shaped a new generation of folk musicians.
Twice nominated for the Mercury Prize and the recipient of numerous awards, Eliza has toured and recorded with an eclectic mix of artists, including Paul Weller, Rufus & Martha Wainwright, Patrick Wolf, and Jarvis Cocker. Describing herself as a "modern English musician," she remains one of the most influential and engaging performers of her time.
