An evening of Opera at Berkeley Castle
Wednesday 30 July 2025
Wild Arts presents a captivating evening of operatic and musical highlights in the breathtaking setting of Berkeley Castle, a historic gem dating back to the 11th century.
This semi-staged production, directed by James Hurley, weaves arias and scenes by Handel, Mozart, Rossini, and Britten together with songs by Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim into a vibrant 75-minute narrative. Themes of jealousy, comedy, intrigue, idealism, and true love unfold through the music, brought to life by four exceptional singers and a world-class string quintet.
With staging described by Libby Purves of The Times as “ROH standard, choices excellent, the quality terrific,” this is set to be a sparkling summer evening of entertainment.
Guests are welcome from 5pm to enjoy a leisurely picnic on the castle lawn. Bring rugs, hampers, tables or chairs – whatever is needed for a comfortable evening. The performance begins at 6pm, with an hour-long interval for picnicking. The evening concludes around 8.30pm
