Scuttlebrook Wake

Saturday 31 May 2025

Scuttlebrook Wake follows the renowned Robert Dover’s Cotswold Olimpick Games, taking place the next day in Chipping Campden, bringing the town to life in a colourful celebration of community and summer spirit.

Dating back to at least the 12th century, Scuttlebrook Wake in its modern form emerged in the late 19th century, taking its name from the Cattle Brook that once flowed through the Leysbourne area of the High Street. While the event has evolved over time, its heart remains a vibrant coming together of locals and visitors alike.

A much-loved highlight of the day is the procession of the Scuttlebrook May Queen, who is drawn in a cart from Littleworth to the square by the Campden Morris Men, joined by her four attendants and a page boy. Following behind are elaborately decorated floats and a fancy dress parade, as the streets come alive with music, colour and cheer. Local shops and houses participate in a spirited window display competition, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Once in the square, the May Queen is crowned and awards prizes to the finest fancy dress participants. The celebrations continue with Maypole dancing, traditional country and Morris dancing, and plenty of family-friendly entertainment.

Throughout the day, the town buzzes with classic fairground rides and traditional stalls, ensuring a nostalgic and fun-filled experience for all.
