Behind the Scenes: Lightmoor Colliery Through the Lens of AB Clifford
Short talks will be presented by a member of the collections team, offering rare insights into fascinating objects from the museum stores. This event provides a unique chance to view and engage with artefacts not normally on display.
This edition focuses on the remarkable photographs captured by AB Clifford in the 1930s at Lightmoor Colliery. A key figure in mine rescue and safety both locally and nationally, Clifford also nurtured a passion for photography—documenting the daily life and challenges of miners working underground.
Visitors will have the opportunity to view scans of postcard images written by Clifford himself, generously shared by his nephew. The event explores these images and their historical context, offering an intimate look at the mining community and Clifford’s pioneering contributions.
