Stone Carving Festival at Gloucester Cathedral
Saturday 23 - BH Monday 25 August 2025
Gloucester Cathedral invites visitors to celebrate heritage and craftsmanship at the Stone Carving Festival this August Bank Holiday. Marking 80 years since VE Day, the event centres on the powerful theme of Peace and Remembrance, offering a unique opportunity to witness stonemasonry in action.
From apprentices to master masons and emerging talents, skilled carvers will transform raw stone into stunning creations throughout the weekend. Visitors of all ages can watch live demonstrations, engage with the artisans, and learn more about this timeless craft that continues to shape the legacy of Gloucester Cathedral.
Family-friendly and inspiring, the festival includes hands-on activities and 'have a go' sessions running all day Saturday and Sunday. No booking is required.
Entry is free, with donations welcomed to support the Cathedral’s Cloister Project—an important conservation effort focused on preserving the exquisite 14th-century medieval cloister.
With special thanks to the Cathedrals Workshop Fellowship (CWF) and the Friends of Gloucester Cathedral for their generous support.
