An Audience With John Cleese at the Everyman Theatre
Monday 14 - Tuesday 15 July 2025
An Evening with John Cleese comes to Everyman Theatre Cheltenham, offering a rare opportunity to spend time in the company of one of the true legends of British comedy. In partnership with Clive Conway Productions, this unmissable night out in Cheltenham promises a blend of laughter, storytelling, and insights into a remarkable career.
Born in Weston-Super-Mare in 1939, John Cleese rose from humble beginnings to become a towering figure—literally and artistically—in British comedy. His height and quick wit helped him navigate a tricky childhood, and his love for humour soon blossomed into a lifelong vocation. At Cambridge University, he studied Law and joined the prestigious Footlights group, laying the foundation for his incredible journey through the world of comedy.
From the groundbreaking Monty Python’s Flying Circus to the brilliantly chaotic Fawlty Towers, co-written with then-wife Connie Booth, Cleese helped define a generation’s sense of humour. His film and television career has spanned decades, featuring roles in the Harry Potter and James Bond franchises, where he portrayed R and later Q.
Outside the screen, John Cleese is a proud father of two and serves as professor-at-large at Cornell University, advocating for education and intellectual curiosity. Now residing in Santa Barbara, California, he continues to challenge norms, provoke thought, and, most importantly, make people laugh.
Whether you're looking for unforgettable nights out in Cheltenham or a nostalgic night at the theatre, this event is a perfect addition to your calendar of things to do in Cheltenham.
