Cheltenham Town Hall hosts an evening of soaring lyricism and rich Romantic expression, performed by the English Symphony Orchestra.
The programme opens with Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, a tender and intimate work full of warmth, followed by Matthew Taylor’s Romance for Strings, a modern gem steeped in expressive beauty. The mood shifts with Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, performed by the internationally renowned clarinettist Julian Bliss, bringing elegance, wit and brilliance to the stage.
The concert continues with Gustav Mahler’s Adagietto from Symphony No.5, one of the most beloved slow movements ever written, before culminating in Arnold Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night). Inspired by Richard Dehmel’s poem of love and forgiveness, this passionate late-Romantic masterpiece carries audiences through an unforgettable journey of intensity and renewal.
Conducted by Kenneth Woods, this evocative programme promises a night of profound beauty and emotional depth at Cheltenham Town Hall.
