Deep Level Caving Sessions at Clearwell Caves

Sunday 29 March 2026

Clearwell Caves invites thrill-seekers to dare to go deeper beneath the Forest of Dean on an exhilarating underground adventure.

This guided caving experience explores a vast labyrinth of more than 250 acres of passageways and caverns, descending as deep as 62 metres (200ft) below ground. Participants walk, crawl, slither and clamber through a remarkable network of natural and mined features.

Once fully equipped, an experienced mine leader guides each small group on a serious caving expedition. Routes are tailored to suit the group’s abilities and interests, whether visitors are seeking adrenaline-fuelled challenges, a unique celebration or unforgettable underground fun.

All safety equipment is provided, including helmets, lamps, overalls and wellies. The adventure lasts approximately three hours, including time to get kitted up. Visitors are asked to arrive 10 minutes before their booked time to prepare.

Above ground, guests can also explore the impressive show caves at Clearwell Caves, discover ten striking caverns with displays, browse the Gift Shop for minerals, fossils and ochre pigment, and relax at The Lamproom Café with coffee, cakes and light snacks.

With free on-site parking and events running throughout the year, Clearwell Caves offers a unique and affordable day out in the Forest of Dean.
