Half Term at Clearwell Caves Forest of Dean
Saturday 23 - Sunday 31 May 2026
Families can head underground this half term and discover the hidden world beneath the Forest of Dean at Clearwell Caves.
Visitors can explore nine impressive caverns as they descend around 31 metres underground, uncovering some of Britain’s oldest mine workings dating back more than 4,500 years. Along the way, displays reveal the tools, techniques and stories of generations of miners who worked beneath the forest, while the striking ochre-stained rock creates a memorable setting throughout the caves.
This half term adventure offers a fascinating mix of history, heritage and exploration, making it a great day out for families, couples and anyone looking to experience something different in the Forest of Dean. All that is needed is sensible shoes and a sense of adventure.
Above ground, visitors can also stop at The Lamproom Café for sandwiches, cakes, leaf teas and coffees after their underground journey.
For those looking for an extra challenge, deep-level caving events with an experienced guide are also available on 3, 23 and 30 May 2026.
