Cold-water swimming challenge in Cheltenham – The Big Chill 25 at Cheltenham Lido
The Big Chill 25 is a unique 25-hour team swimming challenge at Cheltenham Lido, running from midday on Saturday to midday on Sunday.
As the clocks go back overnight, this special endurance event becomes a true 25-hour relay, bringing together teamwork, resilience and cold-water swimming in support of two important causes.
Delivered in partnership with the NHS, The Big Chill 25 invites teams of 4–10 swimmers to take part in an hourly relay challenge at one of the UK’s largest outdoor swimming pools.
One swimmer from each team swims every hour, on the hour, with the relay continuing throughout the day and night. Each team must appoint a team manager to coordinate transitions, and swimmers should be ready 10 minutes before their allocated swim time.
The pool temperature is expected to be between 12–15°C. Brightly coloured swim hats are mandatory, wetsuits are strongly advised, and wetsuit gloves, booties and warm clothing are recommended.
Camping will be available in a designated area for teams, with camper vans permitted in the main car park for a £30 fee. Full Cheltenham Lido facilities will remain open throughout the event, with the café acting as a warm space for participants.
Entry costs £36 per participant, with a fundraising pledge of £200 per participant. Each swimmer will receive an exclusive Big Chill 25 bobble hat.
All JustGiving proceeds and profits will be shared equally between Cheltenham Lido and the NHS Big Space Cancer Appeal, helping to fund essential Lido renovations and a new cancer centre for local patients.
